SOLVAY PUBLIC LIBRARY
CENTER FOR WORKPLACE COMPETENCY
Employing a skilled, qualified workforce is a key issue for all businesses and one the Solvay Public Library is working to enhance with its expanded building program. The Library is working with Solvay Union Free Schools, Verizon, Partners in Business Education, and Syracuse University’s WorkKeys to create a local area resource center for workplace literacy. By creating new spaces and online connections to skill assessment programs, the Library is positioning itself as a point-place for potential employees to identify local employers and their requirements, then apply themselves to meet the skill levels they need. Solvay Public Library is strategically placed in a densely commercial area and one that is easily accessible to transportation routes. Already, businesses like Verizon, Inc., which recently stepped forward to support these efforts with a $20,000 grant, recognize the potential here.
