Solvay Generosity Supports Solvay Stories III Order by mail! Send $25 that includes the cost of the book and shipping to Solvay Public Library, 615 Woods Road, Solvay, NY 13209 or call to order with VISA. Solvay Stories III: A Photo Journey Through Time, the newest in the series of Solvay Stories by author Judith LaManna Rivette is now available. To some extent, this book is its own Solvay story, one about the generosity of the Village. In addition to the author’s donated work to produce the book, the costs of production of this volume were covered by a significant donation from Solvay Paperboard and a generous donation from Geddes Federal Savings. The result is that the book sales will directly benefit Solvay Public Library. A release signing of the book was held at the Library on November 4, where Solvay Paperboard’s General Manager, Tom Stigers, received thanks from the Friends of Solvay Library. “We are proud to have been able to support the production of this book and the Library,” he said. “As a newer part of the history of this Village, we are happy to contribute in this way to our community.” Copies of Solvay Stories III are available at Solvay Public Library for a donation of $20 each to the Library. “This book has the potential of raising a considerable amount for the benefit of Solvay Public Library,” Cara Burton, Library Director said. “From the first printing alone – and new contributions from Judith LaManna Rivette from the other Solvay Stories book sales – we are anticipating just under $40,000 to benefit the Library. We are looking forward to brisk Christmas gift-giving sales.” Sales from the November 4 signing seem to support these predictions. “We were overwhelmed,” Burton commented. “Just from that one afternoon, donations to the Library were over $1,000.” Solvay Stories III contains photos of the Village of Solvay dating from the late 1800s through the present time. It travels down Milton Avenue, includes images of Solvay Process, taverns and stores, and then through the Village, to its fire houses, and to Westvale and back. The photos create their own memories, recalling pieces of the former and of the present and, as always, that special spirit and community of the Village of Solvay.Solvay Stories III is also available at Borders Book Store/Carousel Mall and other local bookstors and on-line (www.OhHowUpstate.com). There will be an author book signing on December 2 at Creekside Books and Coffee, Skaneateles, from 3 – 4:30 p.m. A collector edition (18” x 24”) map of the Village of Solvay created by Ms. LaManna Rivette is also available for a donation of $5 to the Library. Ms. LaManna Rivette is an area native who lives in Central New York with her husband. This is her fifth book. She is a writer, attorney and labor arbitrator. Solvay Public Library is located at 615 Woods Road in Solvay, New York. For directions and book orders, call the Library at (315) 468-2441. Contributions to the Library, which is a 501c3 organization, are tax deductible. |
